Child Care – Assistant Teacher

The Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Lancaster County is seeking a dedicated and energetic, full-time Child Care – Assistant Teacher. The successful candidate will assist supervisor in planning and implementing classroom activities to meet general and specific objectives that foster each child development.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist supervisor in developing and implementing appropriate daily activity schedule. Eat program food with children and is able to go outdoors daily and participate in child-related activities throughout the program year
  • Assist supervisors in creating learning activity areas in classroom in accordance with Responsive Environment Philosophy and Education Plan
  • Assist with daily classroom and center housekeeping routines, including floors, cleaning bathrooms, and following infection control procedures; health and safety checklist
  • Assist supervisors in accounting for each child’s whereabouts and safety in the classroom or any program approved –functions, as well as able to run after a child who darts from the group
  • Assist supervisor in developing appropriate limits for children and deals with limit-setting in accord with Responsive Scale of Discipline
  • Is able to individualize with children at different development levels
  • Assist in informing parents of center events and positive experiences children are having in the classroom if assigned

Skills and Experience

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D and 15 credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary or Human Services, and one year work experience related to care and development of preschool children OR
  • High School Diploma or GED and two years’ work experience related to the care and development of preschool children
  • Child Development Associate Credential in Infant/Toddler
  • Positive recommendations from previous employer/supervisor regarding work experience and knowledge of young children
  • Willing to work flexible hours and able to attend night meetings as necessary
  • Pennsylvania Act 33 and Act 34 certifiable
  • Ability to communicate with parents of various social/ethnic/economic backgrounds
