Family Advocate – Ephrata

The Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Lancaster County is seeking a dedicated and energetic full-time Family Advocate, to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and service area work plans. The successful candidate will also monitor all functions of Health Services.
Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implements ERSEA process: implement recruitment strategies for geographic area; completes applications as applicable and gathers information for selection of children to enroll in Head Start program
- Informs Regional manager of openings and works collaboratively to fill vacancies
- Works with teachers to inform families of scheduled health screenings and ensure child’s attendance on screening day
- Offers families opportunities to be involved in group activities, including policy groups and educational activities based on interest and need
- Has acknowledge of community partnership agreements with community agencies providing services to Head Start families and utilizes referral systems
- Assesses family strength and needs using established assessment instrument, within established timeline
- Follows all Community Action Partnership/Head Start policies, procedures and systems
- Works with classroom staff as needed to insure appropriate staffing and substitutes as needed
Skills and Experience
Education, Experience & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or AA in Social Work or related degree; or 3 years’ experience working with families with young children
- Within 18 months of hire, at a minimum; a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counselling, or a related field must be obtained
- Bilingual in both English/Spanish preferred
- Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English
- Ability to use data base software to enter family and program data, and ability to use Microsoft Office programs effectively
- Positive recommendation from previous employer/supervisor regarding work performance and relevant knowledge and skills
- PA Act 33 and 34 certifiable, FBI Clearances
- Current driver’s license and vehicle available to travel to Head Start sites and professional development
- Ability to work flexible hours and attend night and out-of-town meetings as necessary
