BASEBALL HISTORY AND A COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Two decades before Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier, the Harrisburg Giants, a Negro League team led by future Hall of Famer Oscar Charleston, called Rossmere Base Ball Park in Lancaster their Sunday home. A team of power hitters known to swing for the fences, local papers touted their fence bustin’ talents.
The Harrisburg Giants played three seasons in Lancaster beginning in 1925. To honor these forgotten giants in local and national baseball lore, the Lancaster community is coming together to commemorate the centennial of their historic Lancaster run!
Joining the community celebration, Spring House Brewing Company will be debuting Fence Bustin’ – a pilsner brewed in partnership with Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County. YPOC Lancaster, an initiative of CAP’s Crispus Attucks Community Center, will be celebrating at the Fence Bustin’ Beer Release at Spring House Brewery. Cheers to honoring baseball history, Black history, and Lancaster history, and we hope to see you there!
